Brisbane’s crème de la crème turned out this week for the fashion event of the season, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival.
Over the four days of shows, the country’s most talented designers, including the likes of Camilla, Manning Cartel and Dion Lee, as well as well-established and eternally loved Brisbane based brands like White Label Noba, Wilde Willow, Paul Hunt, Urbanna, and many more, showed their collections on the beautifully constructed runway outside Old Government House.
Before getting into the details of the designers though, a mention must be made of the model who had the entire audience talking each night, Nya Luak. The twenty-year-old, who is relatively new to modelling, had the entire audience waiting for her to step out with her charismatic walk and ability to pose that can only be described as FIERCE! She would garner applause, admiration and comments for her walk at every show.
Now back to the clothes; the week kicked off with a stunning show featuring designers who retail at the newly renovated Pacific Fair Shopping Centre. The show had a distinctly 70’s and 80’s vibe with tones of yellows, mustard and paisley and more than a few bell sleeves and ruffles!
Tuesday night saw the up-and-comers of Brisbane’s fashion scene show us what they have been working on. It was truly incredible to see the level of talent coming through and we can be sure that Queensland’s fashion scene is in safe hands for years to come. There was, however, one true standout brand on the night, Bold. It wasn’t however until the designers came out to take their bow that the audience realised this absolutely stunning collection of beautifully constructed garments had been made by high-school students! This is truly one to watch for the future!
Wednesday night is typically the most classically themed of the week, with bridal, evening and formal wear taking centre stage. Some of Brisbane’s most established and well-loved designers showed their collections to the enjoyment of the audience, but the true “wow” moment came right at the end when the audience thought the show was over. As a special surprise, an extremely rare, $3 million dollar pearl necklace from McKinney’s Jewellers has modelled down the runway which took everyone’s breath away!
Finally, the week wrapped up with a bang on Thursday with the Mercedes-Benz Group Show – which showed some of the best designers in the country from Manning Cartel to Camilla, Urbanna and more.
While Brisbane may be typically known for its relaxed sense of style, it was clear from this week long event that Brisbane is a force to be reckoned with in fashion!
